Our downtown Des Moines client is looking for a Cloud Systems Specialist to join their team. This role will drive infrastructure initiatives to modernize IT operations, leading to increased efficiency, reliability, and scalability by adopting modern approaches to hybrid-cloud engineering and administrative practices and eliminating inefficient or expensive legacy solutions.

What You Will Do:

  • Design, implement, and refine hybrid cloud platforms that integrate on‑premises infrastructure with AWS services
  • Provision, manage, and secure AWS networking, compute, storage, and identity services
  • Architect hybrid workload patterns that align identity, authentication, and application access across environments
  • Lead legacy system migrations to AWS by performing readiness assessments and defining modernization timelines
  • Create and maintain architecture documentation and cloud diagrams showing network flows, dependencies, and service interactions
  • Serve as senior escalation support for complex infrastructure issues across applications, networking, identity, and automation
  • Diagnose and resolve advanced AWS identity, routing, compute, and access control issues while documenting root causes and mitigations
  • Improve platform resiliency by eliminating architectural weaknesses and implementing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery to meet RTO/RPO objectives
  • Monitor, analyze, and optimize performance and cost across cloud and on‑prem environments using dashboards and usage metrics
  • Maintain IaC artifacts, platform standards, and operational procedures in version‑controlled environments while collaborating on CI/CD‑driven infrastructure deployments

What You Will Need to Be Successful:

  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience designing, operating, or supporting AWS‑based or hybrid cloud infrastructure
  • Proven expertise with core AWS services such as VPC, EC2, S3, IAM, and related networking and security components
  • Strong understanding of hybrid identity models, including directory services, federation, and authentication integration
  • Demonstrated experience migrating or modernizing legacy systems into AWS environments
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills across cloud networking, compute, storage, and identity domains
  • Practical experience with monitoring tools, performance analysis, and cost optimization techniques
  • Familiarity with infrastructure‑as‑code concepts and tools (such as Terraform) and CI/CD‑driven infrastructure workflows
  • Ability to create clear technical documentation, diagrams, and operational runbooks
  • Experience working in collaborative, cross‑functional environments supporting enterprise platforms
  • Strong analytical, communication, and change‑management skills
