Our Iowa-based client, with over 100 years of operation, is seeking a skilled Forging Design Project Engineer to lead die design projects for their forging production. In this role, you'll lead the conception, execution, and oversight of closed-die forging design for multiple press machines to enhance manufacturing methodologies, operations, and processes. Your role is crucial in enabling efficient product manufacturing, reducing costs, enhancing product quality, and increasing distribution throughput and productivity, all while prioritizing safety performance. What you will do:

  • Design and optimize closed-die forging tools and mechanical tooling systems for heat presses
  • Develop CAD models and engineering drawings for dies, punches, and press tooling using SolidWorks or equivalent software
  • Conduct FEA and thermal simulations to improve material flow, die life, and dimensional accuracy
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine forging sequences and troubleshoot tooling failures
  • Lead tooling trials, analyze wear patterns, and implement corrective actions for process improvement
  • Maintain technical documentation and ensure tooling designs meet manufacturability and quality standards

What you will need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or metallurgical engineering
  • 8+ years of experience in closed-die forging and tooling design
  • Proficiency in CAD and simulation tools (e.g., SolidWorks, DEFORM, ForgeNxT)
  • Strong understanding of material flow, die wear, and press operations
  • Ability to troubleshoot tooling issues and collaborate across engineering teams
