A reputable organization in the Des Moines area is searching for a detail-oriented Accountant/Bookkeeper to play a key role in supporting day-to-day financial operations. In this role, you will provide light human resources and administrative assistance to ensure smooth office and employee processes. What You Will Do:

  • Compile and evaluate monthly financial statements in compliance with GAAP
  • Monitor general ledger activity and resolve discrepancies
  • Administer bi‑weekly payroll for approximately 35 employees
  • Coordinate payroll-related transactions, including reimbursements, retirement contributions, HSA funding, and tax remittances
  • Submit required payroll tax filings on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Record vendor invoices and assign expenses to the appropriate general ledger accounts
  • Execute weekly accounts payable disbursements for a small vendor base
  • Create and distribute customer invoices promptly
  • Apply customer payments and oversee ongoing receivables follow‑up
  • Address customer billing questions and issue monthly account statements
  • Guide new employees through onboarding documentation and company policies
  • Facilitate completion of employment eligibility, tax, and benefits forms
  • Cover incoming phone lines as needed and assist with front‑office duties
  • Procure office supplies and liaise with cleaning and facility service providers
  • Coordinate security system servicing and support employee engagement events
  • Assist with annual insurance renewals across multiple coverage types
  • Assemble documentation required for workers’ compensation audits
  • Organize and deliver year‑end financial materials for external CPA review

What You Will Need to Be Successful:

  • Associate's or bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Minimum five years of hands-on accounting experience
  • Demonstrated experience using Sage 50 or similar accounting software
