Senior Reinsurance Accountant

Responsibilities:

• Uphold and prepare complex reinsurance settlements for assigned agreements
• Coordinate work requirements and deadlines for and from other teams, journal entry preparation, and analysis of the results of the settlements
• Assist in the maintenance and development of the automated reinsurance accounting system
• Foster a strong understanding of the mechanics of the reinsurance agreements assigned
• Research and resolve variances and inconsistencies noted in settlements by investigating and analyzing results
• Respond to other departmental requests involving reinsurance information
• Carry out reconciliations and analysis of complex balance sheet accounts
• Hold responsibility for the accurate and timely preparation of month and quarter close activities
• Serve as a first-level contact with assigned internal and external reinsurance stakeholders
• Provide assistance with departmental projects as needed

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting 
• 5+ years of related experience is required, experience in public accounting or in the insurance industry preferred
• Solid analytical skills, with the ability to identify, research, and develop solutions to accounting issues
• Prior experience in statutory or US GAAP accounting in a life insurance company is preferred, but not required
• Experience with Oracle, Essbase, and Hyperion is preferred
• Completion of or interest in obtaining CPA and/or FLMI designations is preferred
• Proficient with MS Office products such as Word and Excel
