Palmer Group has an outstanding position in Central Iowa. Our family-owned client is looking for a committed professional who is both qualified for the job’s requirements and dedicated to their company’s values and mission to be considered for their Trust Tax Specialist. This position will be responsible for facilitating tax preparation on irrevocable trust accounts, processing the department’s required tax forms, and ensuring timely payment of all taxes for department accounts. Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the liaison with outside tax preparers to ensure tracking and completion of 1041s and track K-1s received
  • Review and regularly upload Fi-Tek data to OneSource alongside the Trust Operations Manager
  • Review the integrity of the data
  • Review income for 1099s after data is in OneSource, calculate factors from Wall Street Concepts for accuracy and apply mutual fund factors, establish relevant procedures for reviewing disbursement transactions in OneSource for 1041 tax filings through such software
  • Collaborate with Trust Officers and Trust Operations Officer/Trust Administrative Supervisor 
  • Check coding on Municipal Bonds in OneSource 
  • Enroll accounts in EFTPS and manages periodic electronic payments for Form 990s
  • Setup and/or update existing income tax balance due payments and quarterly estimates when tax returns are complete, and input all necessary disbursements
  • Set up all quarterly income tax estimates, and semi-annual real estate taxes and maintain all coupons for each client
  • Assist Trust Operations Manager and Trust Operations Settlement Specialist on the taxability of corporate actions
  • Serve as an internal resource for coworkers on tax-related problem-solving for trust accounting, capital gains planning, and account-specific questions
  • Ensure scanning is completed after tax season
  • Support the filing of charitable trust information for Iowa
  • Follow up on missing cost basis information for current accounts
  • Perform asset setup and maintenance with direction from vendor within data aggregation accounts
  • Attend training as needed
  • Prepare biennial filings for nominee name and files Federal 1120 and State 1120 annually

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of applicable experience in a bank or accounting firm
  • CPA is preferred
  • Strong communication and customer relation skills
  • Skilled at maintaining complex records and preparing complete and timely reports
  • Willingness to attend workshops and seminars and other applicable continuing education
