The Controller will play a key role in managing the company’s financial operations, overseeing day-to-day accounting, and ensuring accurate reporting and compliance across our divisions. What you will do:
- Supervise the creation of monthly financial statements, ensuring they are prepared accurately and on time
- Evaluate financial data and provide the leadership team with insights on financial performance, profitability, and key metrics
- Maintain accountability and financial transparency across seven company divisions
- Handle tax filings, including corporate taxes in 45 states, with a focus on U.S. tax regulations
- Develop and implement corporate tax strategies, ensuring compliance with multi-state and international tax laws
- Collaborate with an external CPA firm
- Lead and mentor the accounting team, including accounts receivable and accounts payable staff (currently three direct reports)
- Oversee the preparation of financial reports and reconciliations, and assist with manual tracking systems for workers’ compensation and other accounting processes
What you will need to be successful:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- CPA preferred but not required
- 5+ years of experience in financial management or accounting, ideally within the construction, manufacturing, or related industries
- Strong corporate tax background, particularly with multi-state filings and international tax exposure
- Experience with Great Plains (Dynamics GP) accounting software (on-premise, cloud migration experience a plus)
- Strong understanding of financial management, accounting principles, and tax regulations
- Experience in managing a small team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with leadership, peers, and external stakeholders
- Highly detail-oriented, organized, and deadline-driven with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
