Electrical Systems Technician

The Electrical Systems Technician will be an integral part of Ranco’s service team, responsible for designing, assembling, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical control systems for new and used fertilizer handling equipment. This role will involve hands-on work with Ranco’s Declining Weigh blend system, embedded control systems, and plant automation systems. You will also be responsible for providing remote troubleshooting and support, wiring manufactured equipment, and building control enclosures. This position offers the chance to work with a variety of product technologies, ranging from older equipment (1970s) to the latest automation systems, with a strong emphasis on learning and adapting to new technologies. What you will do:

  • Build and maintain control panels in compliance with UL, CE, and CSA standards
  • Provide remote troubleshooting and support to customers, primarily over the phone
  • Travel to customer sites for system commissioning, training, and troubleshooting as needed (up to 25% during busy seasons)
  • Work with local electricians and maintenance teams to resolve electrical issues
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics
  • Support product lines by staying hands-on with production and assisting with technology updates
  • Work with PLCs, HMIs, and collaborate with outside control companies for more complex system needs

What you will need to be successful:

  • Proficiency with computers and software for troubleshooting and system management
  • Ability and desire to learn both older and newer technologies
  • Strong communication skills for both internal collaboration and customer interaction
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems over the phone or on-site when necessary
  • General understanding of PLCs and HMIs, with a willingness to learn programming basics
  • 2-year degree in electrical controls or related field preferred, but not required
  • Prior experience with single-phase, 3-phase, and DC power systems is helpful
  • Knowledge of ERP software is a plus, but not required
